Brain Station 23 is hiring a Principal Java Engineer for a long-term engagement on enterprise-scale digital platforms. The work supports regulated sectors and government stakeholders, where reliability, security, and maintainability are essential.
 

This is not a greenfield role. You’ll work on a mature platform used by a large customer base while helping deliver new features and improve existing systems.
 

We’re looking for a self-driven Principal Engineer with strong Java and web engineering skills, excellent delivery focus, and the ability to learn quickly. You’ll take ownership of complex technical challenges, make sound decisions, and deliver reliable solutions

Job Responsibilities

  • Work with Angular and Spring Boot systems through better architecture, clearer boundaries, and safe incremental refactoring
  • Communicate clearly with overseas clients and stakeholders, understand their needs, and collaborate effectively with multiple teams
  • Strong system design skills with an architecture-focused mindset
  • Quick to adapt to new technologies, systems, and business domains
  • Coach engineers through pairing, reviews, and example
  • Able to use AI coding tools effectively while maintaining code quality
  • Able to work closely with product, QA, security, DevOps, and architecture teams
     

Required qualifications

  • Minimum 7 years of Java experience with minimum 5 years of deep hands-on experience building and operating enterprise applications with Spring Boot v4.xx & Angular v13 and v16)
  • Work confidently with Java 8, 17, and 21, applying modern Java features and best practices 
  • Experience with Apigee or standard API management tools, including proxies, policies, API products, gateways, lifecycle, and governance
  • Hands-on experience designing and developing Micro-service and Modular Monolithic applications
  • Work with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins and monitoring and observability tools such as Grafana and Splunk
  • Strong in software design, clean architecture, maintainability, and safe refactoring
  • Hands-on experience with TDD, pair programming and small-batch delivery
  • Able to review code for quality, security, performance, and operational risks, while using AI tools efficiently
  • Clear written and verbal English communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders
